What is Whey Protein?
Whey protein is a mixture of some of the proteins that are naturally found in milk. The major proteins found in whey protein include beta-lactoglobulin and alpha-lactalbumin. Whey protein has one of the highest protein digestibility-corrected amino acid scores and is more rapidly digested than other proteins.
Many people have heard of the phrase “Miss Muffet’s curds and whey” but they have absolutely no idea that whey protein is so much more important than what Miss Muffet actually puts in her meal before the spiders come.
We do know that Miss Muffet wasn’t a big fan of muscle building due to her petite stature. But, all bodybuilders should know that whey protein is a powerful ingredient to their diets as well to their muscle building success.
While Miss Muffet didn’t know, whey actually comes in two different forms. These two different forms are differentiated into the concentrated form or the isolate form. However, there are certain exceptions which allow the concentrated form of whey powder to actually have some whey protein isolate.
What are the differences between the two forms of whey protein powder? For starters, whey protein isolate is clearly sold at a higher price. Whey protein isolate possess higher quality that whey protein concentrate. Besides, whey protein isolate has a larger biological value as compared to the whey protein concentrate alternative.
Usually, isolate whey protein powder has about 95% protein while the concentrate whey protein powder has about 80% of protein. From this obvious marginal difference, it is apparent that if you do use concentrate whey protein powder, you are at a clear disadvantage for building muscle.
This is because whey protein is a very powerful component that is needed for muscle-building. Bodybuilders love whey protein due to the fact because it builds muscle easily and it burns away body fat rapidly.
Whey powder can be pretty inconvenient to purchase. This is especially when you cannot find this supplement as a local food store. Although whey powder is a supplement that requires you to go to the extra mile to get it, it is worth making the trip down to the health food store.
Putting my opinion aside, choosing between isolate and concentrated whey protein is a controversial issue between many bodybuilders. Many bodybuilders could still build big muscles and massive strength even though they use concentrated whey protein as their supplement.
In my opinion, whey protein can help you in your bodybuilding quest till only a certain extent. You can choose to laze around instead of going to the gym and consume isolate whey protein all day, you still won’t see those bulging muscles. The only way to bodybuilding success is not to be lazy.
